The club of sub 100cc bikes is getting really competitive with the entry of Bajaj Auto’s newest 100cc bike – the Bajaj Platina 100 ES. The new Platina 100 ES is the most fuel efficient bike in India; delivering a handsome 96.9 Km/L*, as claimed by Bajaj Auto. So, we compared this new petrol-saver bike with the existing fuel-efficient bikes in India – the TVS Soprt & Hero Passion Pro to find out where it stands in this tough competition.
Engine & Transmission:
In the engine department, the Hero Passion Pro has the most power among the three, powered by APDV engine & delivering a decent 8.36 Ps power which is way higher than the TVS Sport’s 7.5 PS, but just marginally higher than the Platina 100 ES DTSI engine which gives 8.2 PS. Bajaj Platina’s torque value is also higher among all with 8.6 Nm which is higher than Passion Pro. TVS Sport has the lowest torque of 7.5 Nm. All the models compared here have an electric start option.

Fuel Efficiency:
In the fuel-economy attribute, which is the most competitive in the Indian market; however, the new Platina 100 ES is seen to be marching ahead of its competitors. The Platina 100 ES, which gives 96.9 Km/L*, delivers the highest mileage among all; with the next best figure of 87.7 KM/L* as claimed by TVS Sport. So, overall, the Platina provides the best combination of the Power & Mileage in the 100cc segment.
Suspension:
All the bikes compared here provide a telescopic-hydraulic suspension on the front, which is common to all. On the rear Hero Passion & TVS Sport provide a swing arm with 5-step adjustable Hydraulic shockers, which give better ride quality according to road conditions, whereas the Platina ES gives Spring in Spring Suspension (SNS); which also gives better ride quality.

Wheels & Tyres:
The Hero Passion Pro only provides bigger 18” wheels, Platina ES & TVS Sport both give a 17”. All these bikes provide alloy wheels, which add to the ride comfort. The tyre sizes on all the bikes are same; except for Hero Passion.
Brakes:
The particular models compared here provide drum brake on front & rear. The front brake drums on the Hero Passion Pro & TVS Sport are of a bigger & decent size of 130mm for a 100cc bike; whereas that on the Patina ES is smaller with only 110mm dia. The rear brake on Hero Passion Pro is biggest among the three; with 130mm dia, giving it better braking ability.
