About AmbuPod Ambulance: A real solution for rural India
Medical emergencies can occur anytime and anywhere. However, an emergency medical facility is still far from reach of most of the rural population of India; whenever they need it the most. To resolve this issue, Wing Commander (Dr.) Lavanian Dorairaj (retd) came up with a unique concept called ‘AmbuPod ambulance’.
It features an ambulance-cum-healthcare unit which is portable. Thus, it can easily reach the remote areas of rural India. AmbuPod Ambulance: Equipment And Facilities
The AmbuPod ambulance is a futuristic concept which transforms an ambulance into a portable / mobile healthcare unit. It has modern facilities such as emergency medical support thru’ tele-medicine. It can also act as a 24/7 clinic in remote villages. The vehicle is fully equipped with medical equipment such as the Pulse Oxymeter, an ECG machine, sphygmomanometer, thermometer, glucometer, and an oxygen cylinder set. It also carries the necessary Injectables, medicines, nebuliser, defibrillator and a light-weight stretcher.
Also, the ambulance has a computer. It provides tele-medicine enabled support thru’ cloud apps, live connect and streaming. Apart from the medicinal equipment, the vehicle also carries a fire extinguisher, internal fans, interior lighting besides the mandatory flashing lights and siren. It also has a place to keep solar panels. Most of the equipments operate on a battery and are solar charged. Thus, it can virtually operate from almost any place in India.
AmbuPod Ambulance: A Unique Design
AmbuPod’s innovator is a doctor and a retired air-force employee. Hence, the design of AmbuPod ambulance draws inspiration from a fighter-plane. In addition, the ‘Make in India’ initiative has also given a boost to this project. One can attach any vehicle, even a bike, to the ambulance unit with the help of towing arms.
Furthermore, AmbuPod unit has a higher ground clearance and a light-weight fibre body structure making it easy to tow. It can travel on dirt as well as on unpaved roads. During emergencies, it can even be air-lifted.
According to the company, the ambulance can travel on footpaths or narrow roads. It can also avoid urban traffic snarls as it is not very wide. The company also claims that the ambulance has no fuel cost to run, hardly requires any maintenance and will cost less than a small car. It does not even need a dedicated driver as anyone with a motorcycle license can take it by simply attaching it to a bike. Thus, it makes easy to buy AmbuPod ambulance and also easier on the pocket to maintain it.
